Workflow notes
Commissions in practice
A partner statement includes earnings from several merchants and a historical adjustment. Finance needs to explain the calculation as well as approve the amount for payment.
What to prepare
Prepare the seller and partner agreements, applicable periods, calculation basis, split rules and an anonymised statement from the current process.
Review the workflow
- Confirm which commercial rule applies to each earning and period.
- Review splits, adjustments and exceptions against the agreement.
- Separate calculation, approval and payout status so the record explains what has actually happened.
A split with an explicit calculation basis
Give sellers a calculation they can follow. In this illustrative agreement, a seller earns 20% of a defined £1,000 commissionable base: £200 before any separately agreed adjustment. The earnings included and the period covered determine the result; approval and payout are separate steps. These example figures are not a PilotOS price or a recommended commercial arrangement.
Does calculated commission mean the recipient has been paid?
No. Calculation, approval and payment are separate events. Agree the payout process and status definitions, including the treatment of held amounts and later adjustments, before using a report as payment confirmation.
